This sample was from a piece of veneer. I couldn't believe it was so bland but it is! I would seriously be interested in getting another sample just to put my mind at rest that this is representative of the species.

Ask and you shall receive. David Welch sent us this sample ripped from a small log. It's unfinished and only lightly sanded. David says it turns well and and the grain gets a bit more distinct with tung oil.
