An excellent, well-written and well-organized book with lots of good information. Whether you are thinking about building a desk or just interested in some good basic information on methods of construction, this is a good book to add to your woodworking library.

It starts off with Desk Building Basics, a primer on the components of desks such as Bases, Writing Surfaces, Drawers, Shelves & Pigeon Holes. It covers Sizing of Components, Storage, Materials, Hardware, Construction Techniques & Joinery Options.

Following the chapter on basics are seven chapters on the construction of seven different desks, ranging from a simple Lap Desk to a more elaborate Pedestal Desk and everything in between.

Each chapter gives a complete description, detailed dimensioned drawings, material lists and step by step narratives on construction. All chapters have lots of good photos & detailed drawings. There are also a lot of sidebars discussing specific techniques on joinery, jigs & processes.

I have been looking at desks & desk plans for sometime and although none of the desks in this book fit my exact needs, I found it quite helpful in solidifying a number of questions and I feel it will be a big help in the final design of my ULTIMATE DESK.
