Don

Sometimes for unknown reasons a post fails to attract
interest or no one can come up with a
wiseacre answer or statement.
One of the many mysteries of life and web sites.
However, I do like your cat and its interest in woodworking.

By the way, dove season start early in September and
the doves disappear. The usual happening of any hunting season.

I know for me I am on a "retired" busy spell with my cottage renovation and my kids buying houses and my new grandson......all good, but keeping me off the forums.

It's not just your post Don, this site has been really getting very little love for some time now, not unlike some of the fishing sites I used to frequent.

Sign of the times, don't take it personally.

My woodworking has been limited to cutting up and burning trees that were knocked down in last springs tornado. Between old age, some health issues, and the weather since then it's been a slow process. Working on the last big one (a pin oak) for the past few days.

Other than that, I also spend some time getting ready for deer season next month. I'd go into details, but y'all aren't really into hunting and guns judging from past posts I've made on the subject. Or maybe y'all are, but not in a ww forum. Which I understand - there's a lot of political baggage attached to both of those subjects.

And I'm not really into cats. :)

Oh Please! I don't take it personally! I've been on this forum many years and one thing I know....interest and activity ebbs and flows for each of us. When there were more of us there was more flow...as folks moved on...the ebb increased. I enjoy being a part of whatever we have here for as long as we can do it. There were several years when I was unable to spend a lot of time in my shop and I read much more than I posted but now I'm retired and have a bigger shop and more time to spend in it!
Thanks, Gene, for the personal disclosure that you don't like cats.....I remember being like that, too. I haven't replace the dog in my life that died so there's no one to chase the felines away....and I find this one to be entertaining. My granddaughter got it about a year & half ago and then couldn't keep it so 'Pawpaw' gets to feed it!
Look for more to come! I'm busy with another project & will post process pics when more is done!

Don

I, however, do like cats and have an orange Tabby named "Nacho". He rarely comes in the shop. Too much noise.

I have been super busy building cannon carriages.
I never thought cannon carriages would be this popular.

Since the Alamo carriage I have been working on four of my Napoleon field carriages and three of my concrete 1841 six pounder carriages with the concrete barrel.
All are sold.
I haven't posted any pictures of this stuff because you guys have seen it here before numerous times.

Almost all the forums I attend are dying. They are only populated by old guys like me.

New guys are few and far between. They only populate the Facebook's and Instagram's where they can collect "likes" instead of discussing the build. While the discussion has always been my favorite part.
A bucket full of "likes" really has no value to me. :-?

You noticed that to, huh? Read this article the other day that 41% of the worlds population is under 24yo. That might have something to do with it.

Gene,
Good article.
We live in a different world than the one we grew up in.
A perfect example is the popularity of "muscle cars". For quite a few years, the prices on them have gone sky high because all of us geezers wanted one like we used to have.

The newest generation has no interest in these phenomenal classics.
They want "rubber band" cars.

The prices on classics are falling.

As a side note, there is no substitute for American horsepower.
Just sayin'.

Hey Zulu,

Just cuz I'm a contrary old cuss, I say that I have a familial fondness for British Morgans. My Ol' man had one when I was just a kid and sold it just before I was old enough to ask to drive it. He did let me drive it around the block while sitting on his lap (he ran the peddles.) Besides, who can resist a car with a wooden chassis?

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
Morgans are very cool!
In the late 1970's I owned two Austin Healeys a '61 and a '65 and a '64 Jaguar XKE all at the same time. I was tough stuff at age 27.

Although I have never been on Facebook, I always thought of it as a forum for 13 year old girls to chat about boys.
After my observations, my opinion has not changed.

I am also afraid computers and cell phones has discouraged individuals in pursuing any of the trades.
I know I am showing my age, but I do remember having to take "shop" classes even in junior high.
I still remember those classes, using nothing but hand tools. I still use those experiences today.
Although I am a retired electrical engineer I have always believed my mechanical skills helped me through my career.
Unfortunately, I believe shop and home-ec are no longer offered in high school, bowing to political correctness.

That is the reason you don't find any younger members contributing to this forum, it is not on they cell phone, or Facebook.

Just my 2 cents.

Well I am impressed... I can never find a cats paw in my shop when I need one. Yours is on the bench!
