Just got back from a 6,260 mile trip in 40 days.
Left Texas into Oklahoma, Eastern Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Western Colorado, New Mexico, and back into Texas heat.

We did all that in the "Lumbering Turtle" with an overall average of 9.3 MPG. We paid as little as $2.49 to as high as $3.60 for gas.

It was a new campsite almost everyday.
Here are a few of the over 600 pictures my lovely assistant took.

Enjoy!
Zulu

Looks like an awesome trip! Nice pics, thanks for sharing. As a fisherman I couldn't help but notice your "assistant" seemed to be holding all the bigger fish.

Helluva trip!

Thanks for sharing. Our RV days are done but we have some fond memories of traveling up and down the left coast.

reelinron,
It does seem like while I pretty consistently beat her in numbers, she somehow manages to pull in the big fish.
That's okay. I married a girl who loves to fish!

RonTeti,
The truck is a Chevy 2500, 4X4, long bed, crew cab.
I added a rear HellWig Bigwig anti-sway bar that really helps.
The camper weighs about 2300 lbs. dry and about 3300 lbs. loaded.
That makes me about 11,000 lbs. Add the trailer at about 2000 lbs. and I'm 13,000 lbs.
At 45' long with the trailer, I'm a "lumbering turtle" on the highway.

The truck handles the weight of the camper okay but in the grand scheme of truck campers, mine is pretty light. There are some out there that weigh more than 5000 lbs.
They certainly require a 1 ton dually with suspension modifications.

Thanks Zulu. Now that Ive been retired for close to a year, I'm wanting to get out and about a bit much like you did. I got a 1500 4x4 dodge. Ive been thinking about upgrading to a 3/4 ton. I think a 2500 should do me. As both my neighbors tell me their 3/4 is all that they need.

Great Pics, Zulu! You definitely had some FUN!
We just got back from a 7,300 mile trip.... left San Diego 07/05 took the southern route...mostly Hwy 66 through Ar (Petrified Forest) , NM, Ok(Will Rogers museum), Missouri, Il, Ind, Ohio, Penn, NY, Ma, NH and stayed in Main 5 days...Lie Nielsen Open-house/Lobster bake....It was great to meet all the Woodworkers I've know but not seen for so many years. Then we took the northern route home..back through NY, Penn, Ohio, Ind, then Chicago, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado (stayed in Vail a few days), Utah ( toured Zion...fantastic), Las Vegas then Arizona and home...on the 28th. We camped in Main a couple nights....wonderful weather! but stayed in various hotels/motels along the way. My gal took 7,000 plus pics....we're still sorting them out! I would post pics but haven't figured it out yet!

Thanks for sharing

You're right, Zulu....I did watch a lot of windshield. We arrived in Main on the 11th, stayed 5 days and headed back.... really was a pleasant drive. Chrysler Town & Country covered a lot of super slab 80 mph (majority of the trip) on cruise control....and we stopped everyday to enjoy whatever interested us. We're already planning the next adventure...Yellowstone & Glacier!
