I've swapped out my '78 Rockwell contractor saw for a newer ('92) Delta 10" tilting arbor saw. I had blade storage on my old saw like this:

The newer saw has this huge hump, described as a motor cover:

but it's empty inside:

was this made for a different variant, perhaps with a direct drive motor or ???
Anybody know any reason I can't just remove it and make a cabinet for blade storage with a flat back?
(It will have to be removable to access the saw interior, of course)

Hey drstrip,
Isn’t that the space for the motor when the arbor tilts?

(sound of smacking self in head).

I'm so used to the motor outside the cabinet on the contractor saw, it never occurred to me there wasn't enough space inside the cabinet for the motor in the 45° position.
