I am continuing to try to restore a lot of my pictures that were lost with my last photo hosting group.

These are my wooden cannon art pieces. They do not fire.
All of them are made using drawings from the time period they represent.

All of them are made from pine or fir except one which has a walnut barrel.

They are quite a lot of fun to make.

This is a 1/2 scale Spanish 10" mortar from around 1780. The original was made entirely of bronze.
This has been faux painted by my lovely assistant to look like old bronze.
This is my all time favorite piece.

These are my very popular Texas "Come & Take It" cannons. Full scale barrel at 21 1/2" long.
Faux painted to look like the rusty original barrel in the Gonzales museum.

This a matched pair of carronades mounted on naval carriages. They fire tennis balls using a compressed air cylinder I installed in the barrel.

Hey Zulu,

You probably already know this but, there is a long tradition of wooden cannons used as a ruse de guerre. They are called "Quakers", because they are non violent. :D

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
Yes, I know about Quaker guns. They were mostly logs painted black but from far away looked pretty menacing. Especially if there were a bunch of them.

Thanks for everyone's patience with me reposting all these old pictures.
I really hated losing all my history here when Photobucket held them for a ransom I wasn't willing to pay.
I'm with Fototime now for $24 a year and I like it. No popups or commercials.
