It's actually an apartment building Lew, but I hear you
This building has concrete walls and all and the unit is on the second floor.
I've seen and repaired tons of termite damage, and I learned a lot about them from talking to exterminators. When I saw the termite evidence on that one door, I looked real close around the rest of the kitchen, but didn't find a single thing.
I'm 99% sure it's "Dry Wood Termites", like the kind that infest chairs and such.... They're not as bad as the Formosan Termites out here. The Formosans can do a lot of damage fast! But the dry-wood kind, they eat very slow and they live in smaller colonies. I guess there was only about a dozen of them in that door.
It's all about vigilance with the termites.. as soon as you see the sign, you gotta try to nip it in the bud... because the sign is usually just the tip of the iceberg.
Subterranean termites are much worse than dry-wood termites, and the Formosans are like Subterranean on steroids!
