I be most likely to run across a "blocker", "hollower" and/or "gripper". Have fun with this one.

KYLERK gets the shavings this time  DENNIS S Yes in a generic way you are correct however KYLERK is primus inter pares. TMS, I have no idea weather the tools named would be used in fabricating a baseball bat but it wasn't what I was looking for nonetheless your reply/answer is appreciated.

As I said KYLERK got the answer I was looking for. The question arose in my mind as I read an article by PETER FOLLANSBEE in the December 2016 issue of POPULAR WOODWORKING. In the article he details work in green wood being done by a very talented young woman in Great Britain (Handmade in Herfordshire). Pictures in the article show a, to me, very unusual "knife" about 3 or so feet long and one end anchored to a tree stump with a very large integral hook. With curiosity arroused I went to my old friend GOOGLE and found a URL that not only showed those tools in use by their master but the young woman in the article as well.

The Blocker is a very long blade, very sharp, which with the enormous leverage available carves both major chunks of wood but also some delicate shaping shavings. The hollower is again a long blade anchored with a hook with a section loosely similar to a scorp used to hollow the footbed of a clog. Again the gripper is the long blade and anchor but with a "V" blade mounted that carves the groove where the leather upper is attached to an English clog. Here is the URS to see the tools in action.

Thanks for working the puzzler, another will be forthcoming soon.
