 Post subject: half tester bed question

I hope somebody can answer this. On a half canopy bed what are the supports called that hold the canopy frame in place? They are like a shelf bracket but are decorative/carved wood and are attached to the headboard posts and canopy frame. Fairly large.

GENE: What first comes to mind from your description is a CORBEL. Here is an URL with a bunch of images of corbels used on half canopy beds.

That's the word I was searching my brain for. Thanks. Some nice ones on that page.

This is another old bed (1870's) that I'm sort of helping the same lady restorer with. She's been trying to find ready made ones that will fit with the style of the bed, but I doubt she'll find any. Finding compatible pieces to something like this can be nearly impossible.
