I have a 2' and 4' level. I am reworking an older deck and wonder if I should get a 6 footer. I want to disconnect it from the house and add posts and a beam to make it free standing. What do you guys think?

Thanks, ron

Hey Ron,

I have a 2' and a 6', and I use both about the same amount. Strangely though, I seldom use the 6' for any kind of framing or carpentry. I inherited it from my granddad and he called it a mason's level.

Cheers,
Tom

I have several levels and my longest is 4'-0''. If I needed something longer, I would use a string line.

Either one will do if you can prepare a long straight edge to have parallel edges. Use the straight edge with the level on it to check long distances. Best option however would be to get some clear vinyl/flexible tubing about 3/8"dia and rig up a water level to check really long spans.
