 Post subject: another refinishe table

This is another table that suffered child and grandchild abuse from school projects. Striped old finish, stained with minwax walnut, Zinser shellac, and the high gloss wipe on poly.
They were very happy with it.

Looks great! One question, Why the shellac in between the stain and poly?

I use 50% dewaxed shellac and 50% denatured alcohol. Works good as a sealer and poly seems to go on better and not soak into the wood especially on soft wood.
Gene taught me that.
