Hey Folks,
It's been too long since the last puzzler, so here's an easy one.

Who, or what, is Sloyd?
Have you or any of your family members studied Sloyd? (you will be dating yourself)
Have you used Sloyd techniques in any of your woodworking?

As before, no fair using the internet. If you don't have an answer, ask the oldest family member at your next holiday gathering. Then report back.
We'll compare answers after New Year.

Cheers,
Tom

Being the oldest in our family, I'll confess I have no clue.

+1 - for what Dennis said. My older brother may have known!

TMS: IIRC, Roy Underhill mentions SLOYD on his show occasionally and I believe that it is a Swedish school of philosophy and or methods of work. I haven't studied SLOYD and I don't believe that I have ever used SLOYD.

When I bought a "Sloyd" knife many years ago I seem to recall a blurb in the Lee Valley catalog that said the term Sloyd was a sort of generic word for "craft", making a Sloyd knife a craft knife.

Take care
Bob

I think we used to call it a combination of shop class and home economics in the US. These days, at least in Ohio, we call it "not done here anymore!"

When I attended Millersville State College for my BS in Industrial Arts Education( 1976) they had Sloyd Knives in most labs, but i don't think we used them much..........kind of an all purpose tool. By then Xacto knives were all the rage! :)
