Delivered this AM. They were very happy. It had stains that wouldn't come off with ordinary cleaning. The stains came off when I used chemical stripper to get off the old finish. It also had dents and gouges in several places. Did the best I could matching the filler with the wood and the final finish. After chemical stripper and sanding I cleaned with acetone. Then Minwax Golden Pecan Stain. I put one coat of dewaxed shellac over that and then two coats of hand rubbed high gloss poly. I spent a lot of time waiting for each coat of finish to dry.
Come to find out some of the problems with the finish were caused by dad helping his daughter with school projects when she was in the second grade. Been awhile since she is now 40 years old.

Wow! That's an end result to be proud of!

I can appreciate the work you put into this one, George. Great Job! The time between coats is critical to a lasting finish. Did you apply wax?
