Sometimes modern technology is wonderful.
Sometimes I wonder.

I'm still trying to deal with the thought that I can be on the top of one of the Cascade foothills, 30 miles from the nearest inhabited structure, and still be able to call my friend in Newcastle. UK, that is.

Yes, technology can be wonderful.
We never use a map....GPS always. Want a coffee as you are traveling....Can always be lead to Starbucks.
Need a motel room for the night. GPS will give location and phone number. Cell phone...call for a room and negotiate the price....can always call another motel if needed.
Interesting places, resturants, movie theaters, live theaters, major business establishments, etc....it is all in the GPS.
