I haven't posted much in the past many months, but I have been here 'bout every day.

I had to make an emergency flight to Albuquerque at the first of the month. Seems my sister, who was visiting friends while getting 60 pounds of frozen green chilli, fell and broke her hip. She needed help getting home. While waiting to be cleared to come home, she stayed at a friends house. The friend took excellent care of her, and me for the two days I was there. My sister asked if I could make something for her as a thank you gift. So, here it is. A bowl made from East Indian Rosewood. Four inches tall and 51/2 inches in diameter. The finish is multiple coats of a friction polish and a couple of coats of Renaissance wax. I made the pen and pencil set from the cut off corners of the block of wood, same finish and same wax. The are being shipped out today. The bowl was a challenge, as I have a never ending battle with a bowl gouge. Eventually I will get the technique down.

Thanx for looking!!

Ron and Frank, thanx for the kind words. I have started another, a bit smaller and made from cocobolo. Hope it turns out well, too.

I'm sure it will. Cocobolo turns beautifully, and very easy to shape. Can't wait to see it. 8)

Those both look great. If that's what you call "a losing battle with a bowl gauge", I would have to disagree. Those both look like winners to me. Of course if nobody can stand to look at them, I'll be happy to take them off your hands :-D
