I found only one website on the net that explains this screw by
a cabinet maker in West Virginia, after refining my Google search a few times.

I did learn something today. :-D

A bipolar screw? :D

How about a turnbuckle screw??

I'm really not sure what you are talking about unless it is a screw that has both right hand and left hand threads.

Hey Ralph,

I'm assuming that it's like the jack screw used in a scissor jack, but I haven't the foggiest idea of what it's called.

Well, well. I got you again. I was looking for 'Fitter's screw'

This is a patented device for expanding a table frame - see below for a contemporary 1891 advertisement for the device.

A this might be construed as an 'Over the pond' question I will refrain from keeping the very soggy point myself and donate it to charity :D

I'll give you an easier one next time...

Ralph

I've not heard of a "double acting screw" I do know about "double helix screw". Would these be the same. ??????
