Don't know if you all have heard about these, one took off this morning from Des Moines, I think perhaps the 3rd or 4th from Iowa.

We have had two from my small city, and the VETS were treated like Royalty, which they are. So many sacrificed so much, and many made the big sacrifice. This is a wonderful way to pay them back for what they did for us.

My Dad had a pleasant surprise one day. My Mom and Dad were flying to Florida to see her brother one last time and they approached the ticket counter to confirm things, check in etc.

The young lady at the counter asked my Dad if he was a war vet and he says "yes I am young lady". (he was wearing a USMC Capt. Retired baseball cap).

She announced to him "well sir we have your seats ready in first class". He said "there's a mistake, I did not buy first class seats". She mentioned at that point that the airline had a quiet policy to offer 1st class to vets if they are not all sold.

No upcharge. My Mom and Dad flew all the way to Florida in first class and didn't pay one penny more.

You see a vet in the store today - shake his/her hand and say thank you. I have yet to have a vet tell me "no-thanks" or "mind your own business". Every single time they cloud up and say thank you.

It's a shame that doesn't seem to happen too often anymore.
