I'm still alive, but haven't done any WW for quite a while. Thought some of y'all might like this recent acquisition tho.

Bought this recently from a private collection as an investment. There were only 750 of these Tier III pistols made by Colt in 2011&2012 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of John Brownings 1911 .45acp pistol. It is a meticulous reproduction produced by the Colt Custom Shop. It's never been fired or even loaded, and is the only true collectible I've ever bought.

I'd love to shoot a few rounds thru it, but that would destroy any investment value. I have other pistols for shooting, so this one will stay in that pretty blue box.

I am hardly a gun critic, but that looks like a finely made pistol!

Hard to tell how finely made a gun is without shooting a few hundred rounds thru it. There are many. very expensive, beautiful firearms that are poor shooters. But I trust Colt to have done it right, and I didn't see any obvious screw ups when I took it apart to examine it. I have no plans to shoot it, although I could succumb to temptation someday. Seven round magazine, just like John Wick's.

There's 113 years of American history associated with the model 1911, and they are still in use in the military and in civilian hands. I carried one during my USMC career, so this reproduction also has some sentimental value for me.

Anyway, here's a couple pics of it out of the box it came in.

When they built it , they got it right the first time!

Im fairly new to shooting. Ive shot a lot of 9mm, 40 cal , 357 as far as hand guns go.

I shot my first 1911 the other day 45 cal. Man it was sweet.

I gotta get me one. It was one of the nicest shooting guns Ive shot.

There are a great many 1911 originals, reproductions, and models available from many different manufacturers, each claiming they are the best. Prices range from many thousands of dollars to well under $500. Some are good shooters, some aren't Some are plain, some highly engraved. The first thing you need to think about is your budget. Besides the Anniversary Colt, I also have a Tisas 1911 Tanker (which is a shorter barrel model ). They make a fine reproduction that follows the original specifications Browning designed it to. It's an excellent shooter and under $500 for several of their models. Tisas is a Turkish company with an excellent global reputation, and I'd recommend one of their budget models as a first 1911.

Watch the video I posted above, and remember that the original pistol designed for the Army was first and foremost a combat pistol that can take a beating and keep on shooting. There's nothing fancy about it. I fired my first one over 60 years ago, and have shot well over a 100 different serial numbers and models since then.

What I like about it, when empty it can still cause significant trauma. as opposed to today's lighter plastic pistols parts and pieces.
