I had a water pipe that was leaking at a soldered copper joint, I tried every trick I have learned in over fifty years but could get it to stop dripping. So I gave up drained the pipe again and coated the joint with JB weld, wrapped the JB weld with duct tape to keep the JB weld in place and let it set over night, The next day I turned the water back on NO LEAK.

Don't know which solved your problem but JB and duct tape are the "go-to" problem
solvers for me.

I'm wondering since you drained it down, why you did not just re sweat the joint. it works every time.

Duct tape THROW IT OUT PURCHASE GORILLA TAPE. after your first use You will want my picture for your mantle piece, as a fond member of your family.

JB weld I cant offer a better alternative :D besides 2 pictures of me on your Mantle piece would look strange.

I did resweat the joint. I even tried cutting out a section putting paper towels in the pipe and putting on a split union , removing the paper towels and tightening the split union but the split union would not seal( I tried this with four split unions and they all leaked), So I gave up and went to the JB weld it is ugly but it doesn't leak!

Not to be contrary, I would not use that method on copper pipe with a pressured water supply. My 2cents.
