Finally got my BBQ rig put together. Down here in MS, we do a lot of BBQ's, and proper dress code includes some kind of fancy sidearm cause they usually take place at a private range or the host's farm, and involve some target shooting as well as pulled pork (usually a wild pig), 'tater salad, slaw, gallons of sweet iced tea, etc. Last one we had was just before Covid which put a real damper on these. I'm hoping somebody will have one locally this Fall when the weather cools off some.

This is mine, that I just finished putting together. 1911 .45acp pistol with Stag grips, Diamond D custom holster with USMC emblem, basket weave belt, and buckle from my last USMC unit.

Just before my hip surgery I picked up a nice smoker and did two pork shoulders and three loins so I would have a good supply of meat already in the freezer.

do you toss the apple from the pigs mouth into the air and everyone draws? :D

I had an opportunity to shoot a 45 once, that is a lot of thrust behind the slug.

Hmmm. No apple tossing here. Not a bad idea though. More suited to shotguns I'd think.

Re: Recoil. 1911 recoil has never been a problem for me, but can be for some. It's all about Newtons laws, the design of the gun, how the shooter grips it, etc. Much more to it than just the caliber. Every gun (including long guns) has it's own recoil character, but can usually be managed with some minor modifications and/or handling technique. :)

Thanks. I'd been having some difficulty getting re-aquainted with 1911's due to the tiny factory sights, and grip/trigger control, but I think I've got that figured out. Was shooting very low and left. Took a video of myself a few days ago to review, since I don't have a coach available, and was very critical of my grip/trigger control. Modern tech does have it's practical uses. :)

Here's the target from this morning.
