I am looking for a source for some nice oak timbers.
In a perfect world, they would be 4" X 10" X 12' long, kiln dried, planed on four sides and close to home. I don't care what they cost if I can find them close.

White oak or red oak.

I will possibly need about 7 of them if I get a project I have a proposal in on.

I found some red oak here in Houston but they are only 9' long and that won't work. Here the cost is about $12 a board foot.

A friend in Pennsylvania found exactly the above in white oak for $6 a board foot but it's a pretty long way from here.

Anyone have any ideas?
It needs to be nice wood.

It would be for the Holy Grail of cannon carriages. If I am lucky enough to get the job I'll tell who it is for.
This one is important to me.

Thanks,
Zulu

I thought I remembered Christopher Schwarz mentioning a place on the East Coast (North Carolina?) when he was doing the Roubo Bench builds ...

But, apparently I was wrong:
https://www.popularwoodworking.com/chri ... for-hands/

The above link talks about Cherry planks, but I recall him using some White Oak during a Roubo Bench built class. I'll keep looking ...

Woodfinder shows two places, but, as you have found they are a ways away:

"Woodfinder found 10 supplier(s) in our database
that match your search criteria:
Products, services or species listings include "OAK PLANK"
Businesses closest to zip code '77410'
Click on the company name(s) below to view their product listings and contact information.

Please tell them you found them in Woodfinder®!
AGINCOURT Hillsborough NJ (1387 miles)
Moore's Sawmill Bloomfield CT (1517 miles)"

ETA: Found it! Horizon Wood Products ... in, yup, Pennsylvannia.

Thanks Dan,
It can probably be found at numerous places on the East coast.

Good white oak is pretty scarce here in Texas. We do have some nice red oak though.

3000 miles is pretty far to drive for 7 boards.
I wouldn't ship it freight. It would show up all beat up.
Hotshot could get it here but at a cost.

I don't have the job yet and won't know until sometime in January.

I have a 350 year old white oak that's about 5'6" trunk diameter on my property, but you'd have to harvest it and that ain't gonna happen.
