Tomorrow I will pick up a Powermatic jointer, It is a little worse for the wear it has been stored in a barn for a number of years and has quite a bit of surface rust, I saw it a year ago and he finely decided to sell it to me. it is a Model 50 or 60 (hoping for the 60 as it is an 8") I don't remember witch. He wants $125, but I will probably leave with a wash or a little cash in hand as I will be repairing the air conditioning at his house.
I was not looking for a jointer but it jumped up and bit me
I will try to post pictures when I get it and after I get it cleaned up.

DADDY GLOVES: over in the slow lane I thought about your total investment. You said you might get a wash or a really really good price for the jointer. If that's the case and you have the cutterhead issue, why not upgrade instantly for easier maintainence of cuts and a quieter machine. Just buy a new cutterhead but with helical replaceable carbide knives. As a start on that thought try this URL for a price on a head to fit your machine.

https://www.holbren.com/byrd-shelix-jointer-heads/

If you sort by mfg name you will get a page with POWERMATIC cutter heads and you will find one for the model 50 for about $330. Some wd40, elbow grease and a weekend of cleaning etc with the new cutter head you could have an enviable machine. A new mod 54 would run about $1500.

At $323.10 ain't happening the jointer was all that was in my spend pile for woodworking equipment, at least for a while. It will just collect dust for a while.

FYI it's serial # 850142
