Well, I've finally gotten back home to CO and recuperated from my travels. I thought I might share some of the fun with you all.

Here's the truck, once I got it ready to travel:

I started with a short shakedown cruise up to Devil's Tower WY, then into the Black Hill of SD:

I also swung by to see the progress on the Crazyhorse Monument.

Then back home to take care of some bank business and re-provision.

Then it was a 2 day run up to Mackinaw MI. The trees were just beginning to peak in their color and it was stunning. I spent a few days there with a good friend of mine from my AF days. We'd been stationed together at Lowery AFB here in Aurora.

This is the shore of Lake Michigan.

And at night. Look close and you can see the Big Dipper over the bridge.

Near there is the remains of an old wooden ship wreck on the beach.

While there, I met up with another friend I met on an Air Force web site. SSgt Harry McCown, Ret. We met for some shooting and sight seeing.

After that, it was off to northern Virginia.

The full day drive to Virginia was rough. All of the camp grounds were closed for the season so I just had to find a pull off and caught a few winks. Driving through the mountains for northern West Virginia at night, on a narrow 2 lane road with tight hair pin turns and semi-trucks going the opposite way while driving a truck that is much larger than I'm used to was an adventure to say the least. I didn't take very many pictures while there as I spent most of my time on the road making short visits with family and teaching my Nephew's future MIL how to shoot. That's always fun. She did really well and we all had a blast, literally.

Then it was down to Radford in SW Virginia where I shot these near home.

And for Halloween, we have 3 graveyards on the street I grew up on.
Image

Then I spent a day on a local range with 2 of my Nieces and my BIL Dave.
This is my Niece Miranda with my new M1A Scout.

This is my Niece Samantha, also with the M1A. She is currently an athletic trainer for JMU Football while working toward her Masters.

This is Dave, also with the M1A. Check out the muzzle break.

After that, it was off to Knoxville TN to visit my Aunt and Cousin. We took a run into the Great Smoky Mountains, and we also took a visit to the Smoky Mountain Knife Works, something to see if you are at all into knives or guns. We spent most of an afternoon there and I picked up a pistol cross bow and a blow gun just for fun.

The Smoky's were in fine color:

My Aunt's place has some amazing trees. Oaks over 100' high that'll drop acorns hard enough to dent your truck. Luckily she has a carport that could fit my truck.

Then I headed down for an overnight with my Cousin Ricky in Alabama.

After that, it was back home to Colorado for a couple of days to get my truck registered before heading off again to Buena Vista CO.

I have a good friend who lives in Buena Vista CO, near the foot of Mt. Princeton. She is an artist, pastels and oils, and we met through sailing.
This is Mt. Princeton.

While there she took me up to Cottonwood Pass;

Then we spent an afternoon picnicking on the bank of the Arkansas River.

Then, driving back home that night, after driving clear across the country and back without any problems, I got popped for speeding. Well, it had to happen some time given the way I drive.

Dave is all right, he is shooting. But your two nieces need to learn "not on the trigger until ready to shoot" they were posing for the photo shoot, not actually shooting.
Pardon my gripe but as a hunter ed instructor that is very noticeable.

They were actually both looking back and amazed at how light the recoil was. In Sam's case, she'd already fired it dry, and Miranda had only taken the one shot so far. Yes, as an instructor, I spoke with them both about that, but, this was their first time ever with a gun.
