Hey Folks,

Although it's not woodworking, this problem at the shop has me hopping mad. Someone in the neighborhood decided that their Easter present had outgrown it's welcome and dumped it off in my lot at the shop. Since the rabbit is obviously a domestic pet, I first assumed that there was someone in the neighborhood who was missing him/her. After canvassing the area with flyers for four days, I'm convinced that no one wants him/her.

Although the rabbit hasn't harmed anyone, he/she has destroyed my garden, and has even damaged my apple trees. So the Black Bunny of the Apocalypse has got to go.

I originally decided to take it to the city's animal control shelter, but the barista across the street has found a family to adopt it. So tomorrow, after a tempting meal of carrots, his next immediate home will be a large cardboard box. :-?

Cheers,
Tom

Be thankful whoever it was abandoned the poor thing didn't set loose two of them. Glad you found a good home for him/her. Cute little thing.

We have one of those in our neighborhood!
We normally have several cottontails running round but about two weeks ago a large domesticated black rabbit showed up!
We think it belongs to some people who rent a house two doors away that also have a Corgi dog that hates their back yard.
No joke, this short little Corgi can jump a 4 foot chain link fence! We think the rabbit crawls under though. :)

Ingredients

3 pounds rabbit, cut into stew sized pieces
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup celery, diced
2 cups diced carrots
2 onions, finely diced
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
3 bay leaves
6 cups water
4 cups red wine
4 medium-sized potatoes, diced
1/2 cup sliced sauteed mushrooms
Add Checked Items To Grocery List

Directions

Using half the flour (3/4 cup) coat the pieces of rabbit, shaking off any excess. Heat the oil and butter in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan, and brown the floured rabbit on all sides. Add the celery, carrots, onions, salt, pepper, bay leaves, 6 cups water and red wine, and stew for about 2 hours. Add the potatoes 45 minutes into the stewing process. Once the rabbit and all the vegetables are cooked, use some water to form a paste with the remaining 3/4 cup flour. Stir the flour mixture into the pot as a thickener. Add the already sauteed mushrooms to the stew and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes. Adjust seasonings, if necessary, and serve.

Frequent fare when I was a kid. Along with the occasional squirrel.
