As opposed to us going 'off the grid'.

Three days of no power, no satellite TV, no phone, no ... anything that involved electricity. Except for what was on the gentrans running off the generator.

Gives one a rather humbling awakening to realize how dependent we have become on modern living and what not.

All's up and running now so ... back out to the shop. Got a closet door to trim out and hang today.

Hey Dennis,

Did you lose power due to Saturday's storm, or because of the wildfires? I know that lots of folks were without power because the poles burnt down.
Glad to hear you're re energized.

Cheers,
Tom

No, Paul, the fridge is on one of the gentrans circuits! Wish I'd had the media room wired into it as well. But - got lots of reading done.

Tom - had wires down all along our rural road. Even after the storm, Monday, a big tree came down, took out a pole and blocked the road for about four hours.

Good ole generators one of natures miracles :D

We have been lucky here, I cannot remember the last time the power went out for longer than an hour. I am talking 40 or more years. I do have a generator, actually I have two. Must get rid of the older one, still runs well I just bought and larger one last year. I expect one day I will need it.

I feel your pain Dennis,
In 2009 we had no power for a week. But with the generator, solar hot water, and a gravity fed water system things worked ok. The one regret at the time was that the Stove and Oven were not on the generatory circuit. Now they are.

Glad its over, and hope it stays on for you.

Eric

Dennis,

Glad you folks made out OK without power. It IS amazing how dependent we've become and you've reminded me that I need to pull both of my generators out and let them run a bit. Never anytime like the present to get and stay prepared.
