Hey Folks,

Well, the knee hasn't gotten any better, in fact, I think that the trip to California probably did more harm than good. The surgeon took one look at my MRIs and proclaimed that my left posterior medial meniscus looked, "like crab meat". So tomorrow, he is going to, "clean it out". Interesting that he didn't say he would fix it, but we'll see what happens. I'll know more after my post op consultation on Tuesday morning.

Wish me luck,
Tom

I had my right knee cleaned and trimmed over 5 years ago. The first year was an improvement, but I knew it was there, but since then I don't get any feedback from the meniscus, or even much swelling.

Good luck with it and pay attention to any physio stuff they give you (they did not give me any...)

Eric

Good Luck, Tom. BTDT 3 times, but different places on my knees.

As Eric says, do your PT, it is very important to the pain level and your ability to move for the rest of your life.

And, keep up with the post op pain Meds. Don't be the macho guy and think you don 't need them. You need them...within limits. It will pass in a few days.

Stay away from the keyboard for a day or so...what you type won't make sense to you either;)

Hey Folks,

Back home; no surprises during surgery. I get to watch the replay tomorrow with the doc's commentary. I was impressed with how fast they got me in and out, sort of like dining at a too popular restaurant. I felt welcome, but they were ready for me to leave before I was. Kris says I like to flirt too much, but what's too much, and does that mean that I flirt too much and like it, or that I flirt, and enjoy it too much? I've been left to ponder these weighty issues while she walks the dog.

Thanks for your support,
More later,
Tom

I'm glad the surgery went well, Tom. It seems that Chance became rather flirtatious after one of his surgeries....I can see him blush now  Yes, those drowsy drugs really can change your perspective on stuff.

Be careful, watch the crutches on wet tile floors (I almost fell flat on my face after my last knee surgery in an elevator after heavy rain. The building now has rugs in the elevators, so I'll guess someone did fall on that gorgeous, but slippery tile.)

What does Peggy Tzu think of you being home with her?

Hey Folks,

Thanks for the support.
The doc says that my surgery was a success, and that I can start weight bearing immediately. I was a little nervous at first, but I have been toddling around the condo all day, and I can't wait until I can walk Peggy Tzu around the block (Saturday).

He did have to remove about 25-30% of my left posterior medial meniscus, but the effect was like removing a stone from my shoe. For the first time since the injury, my knee feels normal when I put weight on it. Of course, there is the usual trauma from surgery, but that is different and expected.

It will be a while before I'll be ready to get back to the shop, but when the time comes, I'll know it, and nothing will keep me away.

Cheers,
Tom

ps. Hey Verna,
PZ has been very attentive, but she's still Kris' shadow whenever she's around. Oh well, the orchestra still needs all of us 2nd fiddles too!

WOW, I take a week away and look what happens. Sorry I missed your earlier posts Tom and glad it when so well. I had maniscal damage to my left knee years ago and the Doc described it as looking like the ends of a broken bungee cord. Just no way to fix that and the best thing is to trim it back so that the loose ends don't get pinched between the bones, which hurts like $#@!

Mend well and fast my friend.

I spent the last week crisscrossing Florida and haven't been here for a while. Glad to hear all went well and wish you a quick recovery! It's always scary going under the knife..............even the modern ones. Best of luck with all of it TMS!

Hey Ray,

Good to hear from you, it's been awhile. Say, don't you owe us a picture or two of that shop of yours? I'm sure it must be finished by now.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom.... no it's still not finished!......but all the doors are on. The floor now has linoleum, The Very low headroom storage loft has a folding loft ladder and I'm building wood racking in the loft at the moment. That's ben a bear of a job as I have to work in some very tight spaces under the gambrel roof and a lot of the time I have to drive 3 inch screws by hand because the drill driver won't fit even with a 90 degree coupling fitted... all while lying on my side :(

Next job shop furnature including a library for all my woody books and huge magazine collection.

Still no power though because that depends on some re-wiring in the house and ther'es some pluming issues that have to addressed first.

I'll try and post some photos over the next few days.

Ray
