I have to say that I have really been enjoying myself with this rust stuff.
I have had some of this stuff for over half my life with the intention of doing something with it some day.
The lack of any cannon carriages at the moment has given me some time to mess around with this junk.

I could not get the small drill bit to free up. I suspect it got too hot at some point in it's life and seized up. The bigger bit is now free and spinning.

These things are heavy.
The way they are displayed, the small one weighs 25 lbs. and the big weighs 44 lbs.

It is my intention to put these on my website for sale. I have to wait for assistance from my lovely assistant for that.

The one picture with the beer can is purely for size reference.

The wood on the small one is red oak. The wood on the big one is left over butcher block from a kitchen remodel. That base is 17" in diameter!

One cool fact is I have almost zero dollars in all of these rust projects. Almost everything came from stuff I had laying around here for a long time. All the rust was free.

Enjoy the pics.

Two days ago, as I was leaving my neighborhood, I saw this lampshade on the side of the road.
I picked it up. It is a rawhide shade and is in perfect condition. Probably worth about $100.

HMMM! Wonder what I could use it for?
Just what I need, a 50 lb. lamp.

It looks cool though.

I was going to suggest that earlier then I thought, "Now he will have to make an industrial strength end table.".
I think it would look cool but, the wife might not be too crazy about it. :D

I did what was needed to turn this into a lamp.
Other than it weighs about 48 lbs. now, I'm pretty pleased with it.

My only cost in this thing was some 3/4" conduit nipples, elbows, and one end cap. Also a lamp socket.
The shade was found on the side of the road and everything else I had laying around here.

Cool! 8) 8)
