Hi Guys, just thought I would pop in an say hello!

It has been a while... Since the TV stopped airing woodworking shows here in the UK the bottom just fell out of the woodworking market. That, and competition from the internet, meant that magazine sales fell and the publishers were looking for more and more ways to trim costs. It became harder and harder to make a living from writing about woodwork so I just drifted away from the hobby finding other things to fill my time.

After a break away from woodworking for a few years we are about to make a house move and it is time to think about a new workshop. Out interest these days is more on round woodworking and we have been having a bit of fun with that in a small way. We have lived here for 36 years so moving will be a big thing for us but it does give me an opportunity to think about a new workshop and woodworking again. So we are looking for workshops with living accommodation :D

I hope you are all doing well I hope to be back here soon.

Ralph - and Sue says HI!

Good of ya to drop by, Ralph.

I take it from "round" woodworking you've gotten sucked into the vortex of lathe work?? If so, I'm sure you'll find it somewhat addicting. It's the best 'instant gratification' art form I've come across thus far.

I hear ya about moving after such a long time. 36 years gives one plenty of opportunity to sink deep roots.

Hi Dennis,

Yes turning is good fun and an easy way to fill our little turning shed with shavings!

We only have a couple of small lathes but it is all good fun.

Ralph.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the warm welcome back :-D

The new lick of paint around here is looking smart, I hope you have all moved in all right.

It is going to be a busy time here, we are doing a makeover to the whole house it is looking a bit tired. It is only 117 years old so it won't need to much doing to it. Other than a bit of what we on this side of the pond call 'Joinery' and you over there call... The first one back with the answer will win... Oops! Nearly slipped back into Puzzler mode...

As I said in my original post, I have not been doing much woodworking lately, but hopefully that will change once the move is over. Instead we have been following out other hobbies. We have both been into Meccano (Erector) all our married life. Sue is too! In recent years it has got a bit more serious in that we are prolific blogers on the subject, so much so that when Canadian based, global toy company, Spin Master bought the Meccano/Erector company lock stock and barrel, last August. They contacted us and told us we are the most prolific bloggers on the subject anywhere on the web, in the world! WE have since had a meeting with the guys from LA in London' Soho. Tom (TMS) knows The Glassblower in Soho, a place we meet all our overseas friends. We spent several hours in there discussing the future of the brand.

We also run an internet shop selling used and old stock Meccano. so you see we are heavily committed at the moment, If you want to see what we have been unto you can look at the archives on the old website HERE or our blog HERE.

The other thing Sue has been passionate about ever since I have known her is Flower Arranging. A couple of years ago Sue and her mate, Pat, managed to get into the world famous Chelsea Flower Show. It was a great achievement just the get in - not in their wildest dreams did they expect, for two years running, to win Silver Medals! I was their providing transport provider and tasked with designing and building the supports for the displays, which are not small.

Well that's some of what we have been up to. I will keep popping back to say hello and if we actually do some woodwork I will post some pictures. for now here is a picture of a box I made to hold my Incra rules. It is a few years old now and to my surprise it has stayed perfectly flat...

Here are some shavings...

and finally, proving that you can never have enough cramps...

Just posting those pictures has set the juices running again. I could be back sooner rather than later!

Ralph
