Tomorrow morning it is off to SE Portland, 70 miles one way, to have my carotid right artery cleaned out. I am told it is no big deal, but since I have not had it done before, it is a big deal. I will spend 2 or three days in the hospital, then home. R&R for a couple of weeks. My son is driving down early Monday to be with me. The LOML and her daughter will be there also. I have spent the last week re-surfacing my work bench, along with my lathe stand and my rolling bench/outfeed table. I have one more to do, but that will have to wait 'til I can get back to work in the shop. I have some mental plans for stuff to build and keep me busy over the winter. So, it will be a few days before I am back scanning the WWA. Y'all be good while I am gone.

Best of luck. It's always easy for someone else to say it's no big deal. Had 2 heart cath's that went well so I feel blessed. Good luck, hope you get back into the sawdust soon!

Best of luck and hope you heal well and fast. Any surgical proceedure is a big deal if you are the one getting cut. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Positive thoughts and prayers from my house, Bob. With all of the advances in medical science, it's so amazing how many ways they can "do things" to keep us going. My angioplasties and stents went well, and I wish you the same luck.

The only problem I had was that I didn't realize how much stamina I lost. Don't be in a hurry to push yourself. You'll be tired for a while--just go with what your body tells you. There's no shame in taking a break here and there.

Good luck

Verna

I am home from surgery. Other than a 4 hour delay starting the surgery all went well. I have minimal pain. My tongue is still a bit numb but I have been reassured that that will be all gone soon. No driving for 2 weeks, and no strenuous work for a while. So, when I am up to it, back to re-doing work surfaces in the shop.

Thanx for all the good wishes, they really do help.

REELIN RON: Strenuous is rather vague, a term open for interpretation. For example, surfing the web for project plans, light honing of chisels and plane blades, maybe sorting the coffee can of screws and parts. Those do not seem to me to be strenuous; however, restocking the scrap bins, planeing the bench top aren't going to qualify as light work. I'm quite sure that LOYL is going to have a lot of input about interpretation
Whenever a member here has a medical issue I think we all hunker in and await the news about resolution. A lot of prayers, good wishes, and a huge surge of good vibes get put in place and the good news from the "patient" results in a really huge sigh of relief.

If the throat is kinda numb now might be a good time to check out some new chili peppers

Very glad you addressed the issue and took care of it, now on to a speedy complete recovery and attention to MD advise about activity.

I may have miss lead you all a bit. For me, refinishing my work benches is pretty easy. They are made of 3/4" MDF. A little sanding, with a mask, and some shellac, well 6 or more coats and some wax to keep the dust easy to remove. Hand planing and other "strenuous" work is out. You are right, LOML is keeping a close eye on me, as well as Shyann, our Sheppard lab 90 lbs. mix.
