I have a large maple tree in my yard. Recently, we noticed some splits in the bark on the underside of some of the branches with bugs in the splits. The bugs look like ladybugs, but they are black with white spots. Any idea what these might be? Are they killing my tree? Any control tips? I looked on the net, but couldn't find anything that looked like them. However, I'm pretty sure they are not the long-horned beetle that appears to be attacking maple trees.
Thanks
