-28* last Saturday :D
Wednesday high of 0-5 and snow
Thursday high of 0-5 and wind gusts to 40---that should be a nice day, 6" of fluffy snow, windchill WAY down and zero visibility---I hate winter.

December has been nasty, tons of snow, wind, and VERY cold.

We are laughing at all of the Iowa Hawkeye fans that headed down to Florida for the game tonight---I hope they brought "regular Iowa" winter clothes along

Stay warm and safe

Vicki

I drove from NC to Texas yesterday and encountered snow right in the same area I initially encountered it on my trip out. Snowed for the first 3 hours of the drive and the first part was through some twisty mountain roads.

Then I keep thinking that it will get warm as I head west. Well, I pull into Austin and the highest temperature reached on the whole trip was 31F. . . . even in Austin. At least it was a lot better than the 10F I left in.

The good news is it has warmed up to 45F in Austin now.

It's what we call REALLY COLD right now. Lows about 40, and windy. No way we're going sailing in this :( . We've got a fire burning in our fireplace. Don't get to do that too often. Great way to get rid of my "design adjustments".

Here in San Diego area it was mid-40's last night and will probably be 70 something today - the high's are running a little warmer than usual for this time of the year. 8)

First of all - TP? Where's the potty paper? Am I supposed to light that on fire to stay warm? :D

FYI - this is the longest duration cold snap in the Tampa Bay area since 1989.. Christmas Eve... when they needed to do rolling blackouts to avoid crashing the power grid. Yes, these inefficient heaters use more energy than the a/c in summer!

And - GET THIS - I was at a disaster planning summit with the Meteorologist in charge of the local NWS office. He said we could be expecting some Gulf-effect snow flurries Friday night into Saturday morning. Now, that's cold for Florida!

The strawberries, tomatoes and oranges are going to have a very rough time of it for the next six to seven nights... temps are expected to dip below freezing for several hours each night. Look forward to higher grocery prices on Florida produce.

Fortunately, I still have my down-filled ski coat I got three weeks before I moved here in 1992. If worse comes to worst, I have a warm jacket - even though it screams 1992.... Rhonda got a new coat from my mom about four years ago during a cold snap. Mom was cleaning her closet out and gave it to her.

The boys? Well, once the grandparents heard that the temps were gonna dip, BOXES of winter clothes started arriving. They are all good....

My temperature this morning was 36 on my car's thermometer. Tonight is expected to break the records set back in 1911... 28 in Pinellas county on the west side of Tampa Bay.

Oh, I forgot. This memo came from our facilities operations people about the courthouse (315 Court Street). Tell me we weren't prepared...

========

To all occupants of 315 Court St. (The county courthouse)

Facility Operations is working to keep the building as warm as possible during this cold weather snap. Please understand that this building is not designed for prolonged cold weather. The building lacks insulation and full heating. Most of the building heat stems from heat strips inside units that server the perimeter of the building. This design provides for the mixture of heated air with internal spaces where heat is generated by lights, electrical equipment and body heat.

Currently, Facility Operations is manually cycling various air handlers on and off in an attempt reduce the amount of cold air being felt by the occupants. At the same time, facility staff is working to ensure all available electrical duct heaters are available and operational. However, with the internal heat load removed at night, when weather is the coldest, the heat strips may not be sufficient to maintain space temperature set-points.

Cold weather is projected for the next 6-7 days. Facility Operations plans to continue to monitor and operate units manually to maximize the heat available. Lighting will be left on overnight. Facility Operations requests occupants to keep electrically operated equipment (computers, monitors, printers, etc.) powered–on through Tuesday, January 12th and to dress in layers to best adapt to cooler space temperatures.

Facility Operations apologizes for this inconvenience and thanks you for your patience and understanding.

Hey, TT.......January 20, 1985.....I landed in Orlando to a warm and toasty 19*F .....AND, that was 40* warmer than it was in Indy....yes, it was -21*F in Indy when I left.

No one was really giving me strange looks dressed in a warm parka, boots, gloves and scarf in Orlando

Funny scene at the store today. Went to get some groceries after getting back in town.

Found a bunch of women bundled up and wearing gloves. Seems reasonable, except the temperature was 50F!

We leave three blocks from the coast and they are talking patchy frost in our area  . I've got lettuce growing and our mango just bloomed. We lost all the fruit last year to the cold :( .

I know that all of you up north feel our pain :-D

Well, it's actually just a black down ski jacket. So, it's a timeless design... :D

The one nice thing about living in Kansas......"We are prepaired......for anything"..... clothing wise.... :-D
We have some of the warmer temps in the summer and the cooler in the winter and we always have a breeze to go with it!!
It matters not if you are talking "heat index" or "wind chill" we got it all!

Yeah, our local ACE just put out some windshield ice scrapers in case we need them... no need yet, though we've been cool once or twice lately (I've even gotten to wear my leather jacket with my flight suit a few times lately... )
