Snow blower (2 cycle) started hard, got it running. Kept stalling when engaged, eventually only ran with the choke on, then not at all. The gas is fresh.

Took it all apart, sprayed 2+2 in the carb intake and let it sit, ran it and sprayed more 2+2. while it was running. Ran great for about an hour.

Plug looks great.

Then it started again, now  it only will run with the choke on.

Any ideas?

I'd say without hearing it.

remove the muffler and clean the anti spark screen It may be clogged.

also check the air filter maybe some bugs built a home over the summer

I think the former use a torch to burn off the carbon on the screen you should be okay.

My first thought is check the exhaust port and the muffler for being plugged with carbon. That can give symptoms like you describe.

Thank goodness we moved to the South! I don't need to put up with snow blowers or snow shovels! :D :D :D

I might be crazy, bit I don't think it has an air filter. Went on the website they said some models of snow blowers don't have them.

Where exactly would the screen be, I had the muffler off and looked in and didn't notice a screen, but I wasn't really looking for one. would it be in the muffler or in the engine?

Thanks, ron

It should be the very last piece before the exhaust leaves the machine

Hey Ron,
Given that it wants the choke on, I'd say that it's running too lean. You might check the fuel filter to be sure that it's not clogged. Carburator jets can also get clogged during storage, the fuel sort of varnishes up. That would also make it run lean.

He is correct; get some carb cleaner spray it on varnish drips off

Clean the carb!!! Replace all gaskets and the NEEDLE and the SEAT!
I think you left gas with out any "Stabil" in it in the float bowl last spring. Gas will varnish up the carb something firce when it sets and NO, you can't just scrape the varnish off the needle or seat! REPLACE IT!
If it is running lean, a two stroke will run like the dickens for awhile and then melt the piston. DAMHIKT

Thanks, I ran it dry at the end of last winter, so the carb wasn't left full of gas and whatever gas residue was in it did have stabil in it. I'll look at it again when all the snow melts off it. Probably will end up at the shop for some carb work.

Shot in the dark. You aren't using gas/alcohol mix are you? That and a half-empty (or half full) can can put water in the way. Drags the piston with poor lube.

Thanks George, the gas I'm using is the same that I used on my boat last week when I winterized it, which is fresh and stabilized. This morning it won't run at all except after I prime it so over Christmas break I'm gonna rebuild the carb or have it done at a shop.

After my second cup, I'll resort to older, more dependable technology.....................Shovel and back. LOL

A machine that takes up space in your garage, used once a year or so, and doesn't work when you need it most. :D :D :D
