Don't drink soda and such from aluminum cans. Excess aluminum in the system has been linked to altzheimer's (sp). I read that recently.

Sorry, don't remember where.

Hey Dennis,

Correlation doesn't equal causation. No evidence exists to suggest that the increased aluminum in altzheimer's patients is the cause of the disease. It's more likely to be just another symptom. Aluminum is the most prevalent element on earth. It would be impossible to avoid it entirely.

This one's been around, and up and down a few times. "Correlation" has never been strong, and in some studies, it's just not there.

Since Alzheimer's is a diagnosis by autopsy and includes the presence of amyloid plaques, one variety of which contains aluminum, it's a chicken/egg debate.

Mom never drank from cans, used iron and steel cookware all her life, but the MRI showed those plaques.

Best theory I've heard is that it's related to kuru or mad cow disease. Apparently the prion which causes them causes the proteins to refold into the plaques.

Hey NBG,

Kuru! Now there's an interesting disease. Something you get from your ancestors, ...after they're already dead! :D

Dennis,
It might be better to avoid eating your ancestors than to avoid aluminum. :D

Dennis,

Please refer to my previous [humorous] post regarding the disease Kuru. :D

I'd make fun of you "more seasoned" folks, but I'm the one that forgot to repair the hole in my dust collector bag and turned it on after cleaning up the mess.... so i'm not throwing ANY stones this time.

Oh yeah, and I'd kindof like to forget about this football season.. as a Steelers fan at least I got a Christmas win though!
