I'm trying to move my email accounts from Outlook Express to Thunderbird. I have one for my business that works OK, but my personal one doesn't. When I click on "Get Mail" in the tool bar, it shows 2 accounts for the same thing, but when I click on either one, it doesn't work. I'm thinking if I remove both of them and start over, it might fix the problem. But I can't find anything that removes them. Any help would be appreciated.

To remove or add accounts in Thunderbird:

Open Thunderbird. At the top of the page click on TOOLS/then ACCOUNTS in the dropdown menu.

The left pane should be a listing of accounts and settings. Buttons to add/remove accounts are near the bottom of the pane.

Jess beat me too it but to clarify you MUST click on the Email "heading" it will say LarryNorton@email.com in order to get the REMOVE ACCOUNT.

Hope this helps

Thunderbird is so much nicer than outlook i will look for you to get an updated Holidays list to import into thunderbirds calendar.

OK, I did all that, but still no luck. When I click on the "Get Mail" icon at the top, then click on the account name, I get an Alert message saying:

An error occured with the POP 3 mail server. verizon.net responded.

Could it have something to do with my problem in Outlet Express with it not taking my password? I don't think so, but I thought I'd ask.

Is Verizon your email server? I don't think it supports Thunderbird, although I am not sure.

As I'm sure you are aware, the email server and email programs like Thunderbird are separate things. Email accounts have to be setup on the email server (frequently your ISP, but also Yahoo Hotmail, gmail, etc). Email programs (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc) then access the emails on those accounts for you to read.

It's like sending the office boy to the post office to get the mail. He has to know the box number and have a key. He brings the mail back for you to read. The post office is the server and the office boy is the email program. A new office boy has to have the same info to get the mail.

It sounds to me as if your new office boy (Thunderbird) does not have the necessary info to get the mail. A password is usually one requirement, but there are others also which vary with the post office. (server)

Thunderbird has a large Help file, and somewhere in there it discusses details of using Thunderbird with most of the more common email servers. I seem to recall Verison as one of the few that would not work with Thunderbird, but that needs to be checked.

Probably a phone call to the support section of your ISP would give you a quick answer to your problem.

I found the following regarding Verizon/Thunderbird on one of the Mozilla support forums. A work around for the problem is detailed about half way down the page. However, it did not work for everybody.

:-D PoolQ - Good one!

OK, I got it working. In a round about way. I couldn't remember my password on my Verizon site, so I changed it. Then when I tried Thunderbird again, it worked.

Thanksfor your email, Jeremy, and for both you and Jess's help. I can always depend on someone here to solve my problem, no matter what it is.
