Contact whoever edits the "home" section of any newspaper. They are dying for articles, especially if you are willing write them. Green sells right now so get on it!!

Send out a 'Press Release' as PK says. They may use it word for word or they may edit it. That's their decision. Don't be depressed if nothing happens... ie no publication... that's parr for the course. Just send it to another publication until you do get a hit. Don't forget to give a web address in the article if you have one.

That's "finishing," not "refinishing," if you're using the new stuff. The water types will not look like the finishes of old. Good luck with it, but most people are still accustomed to or interested in the shades and surfaces the old finishes gave.

Thanks for the quick responses, folks. I'll try the home section, PK. Thanks!

Robin, I've been using waterborne for years, although my stuff certainly doesn't look as good or isn't anywhere near as good as the antiques. I recently got a gallon of waterborne lacquer and am looking forward to trying it.

And you're absolutely right, within 5 years, you won't be able to find any solvent based finishes.

What a pity that the latter-day druids have this dogma. One coat of honest varnish equals just about as much VOC emission as one medium spruce or fir on a warm day.

If I were interested in an "eco-friendly" re-finisher I would be interested to know how the original finish was to be removed in a "eco-friendly" fashion.

Do not discount an active web page for business.
Even a blog. Hey, you said self-promotion.

In fact, a blog is an very inexpensive way to show the hows and whys of your venture.

A few emails to Marc Spagnoulo, Chris Schwarz, and other bloggers might result in link trading and get traffic to the site.
