For those who don't know, Austin has a motto that goes: "Keep Austin Weird"

It was originally a slogan promoting local businesses. However, some have decided to take it to an extreme.

Well today brings yet another example of the weird. There is someone cruising around Starbucks that I'm still struggling to describe. Here is my best shot.

He seems like a homeless guy that is dressed in a way that looks like a cross between Sacajawea, Flash Gordon & a lunch lady.

If that is not strange enough, it is compounded a couple other facts.
- This is in the best neighborhood in Austin (near Michael Dell's & Lady Bird Johnson's houses)
- Nobody is really paying any attention to him. He just seems normal.

Austin is one interesting place.

Now, I thought it was a charming city...

But, I guess I'm just too weird to fit in...

I love it...

Monterey in the mid 90's was often much the same... no one thought twice about a high-and-tight marine, a tubby zoomie, an Arab in full dress including keffiyeh, and a homeless guy wearing a neon green wet suit bottom and a tweed jacket all having a drink together

The homeless guy's name was Earl, and he had great stories of traveling the world in the merchant marines... those drinks earned some great stories and a friendship I'll treasure forever...

Keeping things weird is the best way in my book...

Hey Rockfish,

Here in Seattle, we have a neighborhood called 'Fremont' that claims to be , "the center of the known universe". They have their own passport stamp, complete with Latin motto, "Quirkus Libertas", or "The Freedom to be Strange". Believe me, some of the denizens do their best to live up to that motto.

Ya-all can keep those folks. Don't even mention Kansas to any of them.

The best we have is a guy (I think its a guy anyway) that rides his bicyle around town wearing a skirt, blouse and fishnet stockings and high heels. He has long hair with breettes and flowers in it. He gets beat-up, and has to dodge pick-up trucks with gun racks in them alot.
I'm not sure if it is a "he" or "she" but, IT IS UUUUGGGGLLLLYYYY!!!!

I really feel kina sorry for him (especially in winter when it is snowing) but I also feel that is his choice to keep doing what he is doing. So what can you say????

OK, this is really funny!!

I just ran across Nurse Betty (AKA, Nurse v1.7 & v3.2). Turns out she knows Sacajawea from yesterday. She said his name is Russell and that he is really smart.

It was funny because I told her I was at that Starbucks yesterday and she asked if I saw a guy with feathers. I showed her the post above and asked, "do you mean this guy?" Apparently that is his normal attire.
