Here is a jig to make, to perform as a router aid. The product of the effort is wooden spoons.

Obviously this is a forum thread and the 2d and 3d pages are responses and comments. The jig might be something to make to produce spoons for Christmas give aways or to be embellished for presents. The thumbnails are pretty self explanatory if your e-devise will let you expand them.

Okay,

I find this to be pretty sad. For me, the joy of making spoons is in the hand carving of them; the fact that no two are exactly the same. Carving a spoon is like therapy in its quiet and peaceful progress. The idea of using a router and jig just takes all the fun out of it.

My 2ยข,
Tom

TMS: Yes, you define the beauty of hand work. Watching something emerge from a rough basic material is rewarding and magical. I think about a story about a sculptor who saw the statue in the block of marble while it was still in the quarry. Making the object appear can be very enlightening.

I recall once seeing such a block of marble from which the sculptor, was it DiVinci??, had begun a carving but was incomplete. All it consisted of was a knee sticking out of the block showing how he simply worked his way through the material to reveal the form.
