old school, dovetails are a beautiful, super strong and precise way to join wood pieces together. It doesn't really matter when the joint is assembled weather the joint was cut by hand or by machine, laid out with care by hand and eye or cut with a jig and router. Here is a site that explores cutting the joint with a bandsaw. At the bottom of the page is a click through to the "impossible looking joint". Explore and think about all the different ways that woodworking tasks can be performed. The cat has nine lives so it can be skinned several different ways.
