Do you really need a $3000.00 table saw that won't cut your fingers off? Do you really need a $700.00 or so jig to cut dove tails? Do you really need electricity to work wood? Do you really need hearing protection? NO but you and your skills may evolve to where you do for efficiency in time and to do work that our ancestors even the last generation could not do. BUT you gotta start somewhere! BY THE WAY: Wear safety glasses! and also use a dust mask when things are going to get cloudy! It's really hard to fix or replace eyes and/or lungs

DITTO, NewTooth (BTW, what IS your given name?)
That lung comment is one I have intimate knowledge of......gave up a lung in 2008 and most of my sawdust making equipment is now supporting cobwebs! And I LOVE IT.....NEVER got so much satisfaction & gratification from woodworking before I got serious about hand tools!
Another great site, too.
