The oldest daughter wanted a new coffee table made because her old one was too heavy to move so she good put down a yoga mat to do her excersises . The problem was she wanted it the same size and made from oak but only half the weight. The solution I came up with was making the legs 1&1/2 square instead of 3 inch square, the top 5/8 thick instead of 1 inch. The apron 1/2 thick instead of 3/4. And the shelf out of 1/4 inch oak venier instead of 3/4 thick.I put plastic glides on the bottom of the legs so it would slide easier. While it still isn't 1/2 the weight it is close to it!She did not want the apron scallops on the new one, she did not want them on the origional one eiher but they were on the picture she gave me when she ordered it!
