I haven't been posting lately. The crash of Fototime, who was my photo host, has left it really hard to post a lot of pictures.
Every picture I have posted in the last several years has disappeared.
My Alamo build thread has just under 50,000 hits. But now all 150 pictures are gone.
What a shame.

I can post a few using a free host. Here is a carriage I just finished for someone with an old barrel.
The barrel has history. It was found in a river on the coast of Oregon. It is believed to be this barrel from the battle of the Rock.

https://pacificcity.org/Stories/TheCann ... eRock.html

The barrel is only 28" long but is a fat little beast.
I don't have the barrel in my possession but I did make this naval carriage for it.
Made from 2.5" thick oak.
I'm getting ready to ship it to Oregon. I'll post pictures of the mounted barrel when I get them.

Hey Zulu,
I'm guessing that it's a 12lb carronade? It looks too short for anything else.
Nice work on the carriage.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom,
Way too small for a 12 pounder. The bore is only 2.5". A 12 pounder bore is 4.625".

I've never seen anything like it before.

I'm guessing it is a Russian barrel, based on the story and the image on the barrel.

SS Sea Gull, built by Mackie & Thomson, Glasgow in 1899 and owned at the time of her loss by Leach & Co. Ltd., London, was a British steamer of 976 tons.

Pretty interesting information. I passed the link on to the owner of the barrel.

Small world.
I belong to a cannon discussion forum. I posted pictures of the barrel there asking for information. The guy that posted the picture in the British Militaria forum is a friend of mine. He used my picture to post there.
Now RixWorx finds it and it surfaces here where I read it for the first time on a woodworking forum.

I just realized that the last post in that link was dated August of 2019.
That means my friend was trying to research this barrel back then.

I thought he was just doing it recently.
