Hey Folks,

Same dog (Peggy Tzu) , new chair. Or rather, a new iteration of the same chair. I’ve just completed the wood parts for four Roorkhee chairs*, and I’ve assembled one with black English bridle leather from Wickett and Craig. I’ll hold off finishing the other three in the event that someone wants a leather color other than black.

This one is available now, and if you get your order in before the end of November, I can have a matching one finished just in time for Christmas. :-D

Cheers,
Tom

*BTW- The modern renaissance of the Roorkhee chair is entirely due to the efforts of Chris Schwarz who has taught hundreds to make them (including myself), and has freely shared his design and expertise.

Tom,
You are the Master!!!

My stuff is elementary compared to yours.
I'm the gorilla in the workshop!
Nice job!

Hey Zulu,

Thanks, but please don't downplay the stunning work that you do. My stuff is pretty formulaic compared to the innovation that you exhibit.

To be honest, I do get a bit burnt out by building the same thing over and over again. On the other hand, I'm flattered by the fact that folks continue to purchase them, and I do try to improve my technique with each chair. I'm hopping to start on a new project after Thanksgiving, and to really change things after the New Year.

Have a happy turkey day everyone!

Cheers,
Tom

I see no problem with building more of the same thing, except the boredom part. You learn the most on the first one, but often a bell goes off after building a bunch of something..........."Ding ding ding, Oh now I see!"

I built some of the same simple projects with my middle schoolers for years because they always requested them. The finer details come out with repetition. The amazing thing I found is sometimes those little details and short cuts are the ones that you find useful on other projects.

I think Doug Stowe discusses this in one of his box books.

Keep up the nice work TMS!
