Well its been a long time and I miss all my little friends here on the forum.

I have a request from a very old customer from about 20 years ago..
A CASKET IN THE SHAPE OF A CANOE..

Its going to take some time to figure it all out.
The thing has to be deeper and shorter then the common canoe. It also has to have some type of hinged doors .. I m sure I can do it but its still kinda creepy..

I will post picture on and off as I get into the project..
I hope I don't slip and fall into the thing after its built..

Think kayak over canoe in your design. Don't make the hole or the seat....

This sounds like a project that you can really flex your creative side. How about a canoe design that is slightly larger at one end than the other, this could help cut down on overall length. I don't think you'd want them to have to transport it on a roof rack.

Wenona has some designs like this:

Not yet.

Actually burial rituals are kind of an interesting subject. People get planted in all kinds of ways above and below ground, standing, sitting, lying down, in the ocean, under glass, in giant pyramids, in niches in vast below ground crypts and caves, in cars, or small boxes for ashes or just sprinkled in somebody's favorite place. We're offered up to vultures, wild animals, and medical schools; even stuffed and mounted.

Don't recall any canoe caskets tho (unless you figure the Viking tradition, but those weren't exactly canoe's ), so this might be a first. :)

I've already decided mine. Ashes buried at Sea, courtesy of the USN and USMC. Designated surviving relative gets a video of the ceremony, a map showing where I was dumped, a flag, and a couple other mementos.

My wife and I are actually considering this since we both love the ocean and fishing.

I like that reefball thing, not for my as I intend to be scattered after being roasted, but it's a cool idea.

Hey Ralph,

An interesting project, for sure. I'm curious as to why you need a hinged lid for the casket? Most early casket lids were simply nailed down. While you probably wouldn't want a nailed down lid, I'd think that you would be able to fit something below the gunnels that could be completely removed.

I've always liked Tennyson's words in regards to death - and life. "In Memoriam A.H.H." http://www.online-literature.com/tennyson/718/

It's very long, and I don't know who has read the entire poem, but I'm sure everyone will recognize some of it. It really should be read in it's entirety to understand the most famous line.

"Tho' Nature, red in tooth and claw
With ravine, shriek'd against his creed—"
