Just finished a bench out of cherry with fiddleback maple end panels.
It's not a large bench - about 32" in length and 16" in height but
makes a really nice bedroom addition as a spot to put on your shoes.

Anyway, here is some pictures - thanks for looking.

Oh, how I love cherry!!!

Tom, you did a wonderful job of matching the cherry pieces. The end apron under the seat seems to flow gently into the grain of the side apron under the seat.

Did you resaw the two side aprons from the same piece of cherry? If not, it sure looks like it.

Love the Oriental looking angles--a great compliment to many styles of furniture.

And, the contrasting timbers look great. Neither one overpowers the other.

You did a fine job!!

Verna

Very nice bench. That last picture really shows off the grain in both woods. Beautiful wood and beautiful work.

Seriously...... Beautiful wood, beautiful design, and extra beautiful workmanship!
I'm proud of you! You did good, and will enjoy that bench for a LONG time! :-D

I'd certainly feel comfortable sitting down on that bench, Tom. The maple is just gorgeous.

A very fine bench, Tom. It is surprising how useful such a small bench is around the house.

Great design. I really like the leg taper and sweep on the ends of the top. If that were mine, I'd be changing my shoes a lot

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks!

Verna - the grain matched pretty well but I didn't resaw any pieces to obtain
a match. The cherry was very nice and wide so most of the actual
bench pieces were cut from the same running length of the material.
It made the match fairly easy - thanks for your observation.

It was a fun project but I'm glad it's done - the shop is just too
hot now to work much at all.

Tom

Tom that's fine work, the wood looks great. The joint lines are tight, makes for a sturdy bench. The legs make me want to take the taper jig off the wall and cut something.

Very nice proportions. I wonder a bit how it might look, though, if the legs tapered evenly around the centerline, keeping the panel centered at the bottom.

Beautiful work Tom! Please be sure to post some pics of it in a few years so we can see the color change in the cherry. It should be contrasting even better by then. I love that quality of Cherry, especially when combined with a light wood like Maple.

I also really like the bevels under the outer edges. Great design features. 8) 8) 8)
