This is the one I made for Mom in memory of my Father. Cherry with Walnut accents. The upper flag case joined to the lower shadow box by 1/4" all thread through drilled out brass casings from his 21 gun salute.

Then there was this one for my FIL. Walnut.

This was fun as I got to combine turning with square work.

Hey Gail, here's my first and only attempt at a flag case. Plenty of info and inspiration here and on the web.
Image

it's been quite a while since I made it but a remember making the miters with a tenoning jig. The glass can be removed for cleaning or replacement via a threw slot I routed in the lower case top. The slot is then fir with a removable inlay and covered by the top flag box.

I made this one a few years ago using Maple and Mahogney

The upper area is for a pendant flag folded to show the Surface Warfare emblem.
