Haven’t been posting much, my son and I have been restoring a car of mine, but I still lurk most every day. Once the car is done I’ll be back to wood working.

I do, however, need to post this recent find.

So, my wife and I head up to Maine for a week for our 25 anniversary and tooling around (pun intended) we stopped by some antique shops. Wasn’t finding much, but was enjoying the time and the company.

Well I see this small shop in the middle of a town that was maybe 200 ft long (the town that is) and I say to myself “why not”.

I enter the shop and immediately spied my holy grail, or so I thought. I picked it up and there was no price on it. I looked it over carefully but wasn’t sure of the maker.

I thought is this the real thing? My heart was pounding and I was frothing at the mouth. Quick, wipe the mouth. I turn and ask the guy in the corner “How Much?”

He says “I need to get $45 for it”. My heart sunk a little, must me a replica. I look at it again and say “I can do $45”.

Even as a replica it was worth it to me.

He continues as I’m paying for it “I got $75 for the last one, but with the economy”.

I say “Ahh”.

He then says “I don’t get the miniatures all that often”.

I froze for a moment, did he say miniature? Even if this is a replica it’s not a miniature.

Could it be he doesn’t know what he has and for the second time?

I say “thank you” and head out the door.

Quick into the car and I start rubbing the rust at the top, then scratching with my finger nail until I can just barely make out the name and if I was in a convertible I would have landed on the trunk. As it was I was confined by the roof so I only jumped a little so as not to hit my head.

But, I could read the name:

“STANLEY”

I have since cleaned it up enough to also read:

“PAT APR 19 92”

Did some other checking and it appears to be authentic.

So, I am the proud owner of a

DUDE!!!! that is worth 20 times that much (at least)... holy cow what a find. I can only imagine that if it was a repro (like the australian ones) that it would be "cleaner" WHAT A FIND!!!

Here's a site I have gone to recently for info-
http://www.hansbrunnertools.gil.com.au/ ... ey%201.htm

Nice scores, and this has got to be one of the biggest YOU SUCKS I've ever seen- I'm really, really, and truly so very happy for you

Wow! You really hit the big time with that one, and it looks to be in very good condition. What are your plans for it?

Did you happen to read what Patrick Leach said about the #1's ? http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan1.htm

Quote:
They are cute little planes that look sorta neat on a mantle, or on top of your TV, which is probably a better place for them than in your shop due to their value. Every serious collector of old tools wants one of these little monkeys, which makes the cost of owning one rather steep. I wish I bought every last one I saw a dozen years ago - I'd be wintering in Palm Beach, if I had.

Yeah, I read that. But hey, I've got six block planes, two are low angle, so I really only need two, but I use them all from time to time.

I'll use this only if only to say I used it.

I could be wrong, but I believe these used an advanced bio-mechanical system controlled by mental impulses transmitted via the nervous system. Far beyond our current simple electro-magnetic systems, and likely back- engineered from extra-terrestrial technology. :D
