This morning I started to assemble the top wing. I laid out the main spars the leading and tailing edges, and the wing tips. I cut 4 wing spacers to keep the proper wing width during assembly. After doing measuring for the length of the wing I glued the spars at the center scarf joints. Next will come the wing tips gluing and then the wing ribs. :D :D

all very interesting.
Do you know what wood the Wright brothers used? Same as you?
And did they do bent laminations or steam bending? Just curious.

The Wright's used Ash for the bent wood and Sitka Spruce for the stright pieces. I am using the same. Wight's at first did steam bending of the Ash but did'nt like that(too much spring back) the only glue at the time was horsehide but it was unstable in damp weather, they did a laminate combo of glue and small brads bent around a form. Very crude, but it worked. :D

OK! I know you have been waiting for the dumb question so, I'll ask it....
It looks to me like you are tying the ribs to the spars with heavy cord or string. Is that true?
I would also asume that you must be glueing various items (including the ribs to the spars) but NOT using hide glue. OK, so what glue are you using?
We don't want this 'flying machine' to fall apart with Snoopy up in the air. :D

Rog, good question, I use Titebond II for the rib lamination and wing tips, but to attach the ribs to the wing spars I use NO glue, only thing I use is waxed linen cord doing a square lashing, and trust me when done its right its tightly bound to the spar. Thats what the Wrights did. I started with clove hitch and ended with a clove hitch. All those years with Boy Scouts are paying off. :D :D

I see percision and attention to detail that I've yet to attain. I am starting to understand the research you put into this project, not a build for a long weekend. Thanks for the updates, and your efforts.
