Hi everyone
This is the subject photo of my next commissioned intarsia box for a client in Big Canoe Ga . I will be posting a step by step WIP for those interested in seeing this project come to life. Should be a fun project--stay tuned.

That looks like an interesting one for sure Mike. Have you developed a wood list yet for the different colors?

I'm looking at those dead trees in the back ground and thinking that a Blue Stain Beatle Kill might be a good choice. I've got a good supply out here if you're of the same mind and don't have a source. The Pine Bark Beatles have really been busy out here and theres lots to go around.

Hi Frank
As of yet I have not done the wood list except that I will be using Wenge for the bear. The photo depicts a grizzly bear and with a few modifications I will transform it into a black bear. ( Bigger ears and no back hump). I am not sure if I will be adding the dead trees as of yet but will keep you in mind if I do need to use blue pine. Thanks

I got the box glued up and the lid cut off yesterday. The box measures 7" x 9" x 3.5 " and is made from some beautiful Fishtail Oak with a Wenge accent strip. I have applied one coat of satin wipe on poly with at least 2 more coats to be applied to make the grain pop.

On to the pattern for the Bear Box

Hey Mike .... I've seen a lot of WIP posts but this one of the buffalo boxes was so very thorough and intriguing, I have to say it is the best I've seen. You are truly a great craftsman/artisan. Can't wait to see the bear Box!

Here is the first draft of the pattern that I will use for the Bear Box Intarsia.

Image

The outside dimensions are 6" x 8" and is made to fit into the lid of the box. I used Office Word to do the ovals but hand drew the bear and all the details . I'm sure that I will modify a few things as I go but for now it is a good starting point.
On to the fun part.
