Very cool. I love the joinery.

How did you do all the doves? Jig? Hand?

that's a lot of high-quality woodworking in that piece-- great job!

I really like how every joint, right down to the bottom molding, is exposed. Talk about not being afraid to show your work... very nice

I don't know where Mango sees any hinges  , and at first I thought they were box joints. On closer inspection, I guess they are dovetail joints  , at any rate, that is a nice job! 8)
I'm assuming you made wooden slides for the drawers and I like that idea as well. It makes for a very interesting apearance. Looks kinda like an "old fashon" file cabnet and I really like it.
What wood and finish did you use?

The joinery is just stunning and I really love the overall look of the piece. I also like the look of the through DT's on the drawers.

So, how about some details? What wood? What's it used for? How about a shot of the drawer interiors? Finish?

On the critique side the top left drawer seems to jump out at me. The color of the drawer front looks different than the rest and the gap under it looks a little bigger than the rest. Other than that it really looks great for the style you've used.

thanks for the comments everyone 8)

ok lets see, first some details : the case is all cabinet grade maple plywood, and solid maple edging. all of the drawer boxes are as close to quatersawn pine as i could find in my local lowes . funny enough they had quite a bit of it ... i read here or somewhere that it doesn't move as much as hard maple , so i thought i would give it a try . all the drawerslides are whatever small scraps i had laying around , mostly ash and hard maple. the finish is cherry stain (minwax) and 3 coats of clear polyureathane on everything . a couple of coats of johnsons paste wax over that and especially on the drawer slides. its a storage case/chopsaw table for our friend joan , so she can get rid of all or most of the plastic drawers and boxes she currently is using . hopefully it will clear up some space in her small shop

as to the top left drawer : you have a good eye , its actually the second drawer down i goofed on a little , so the gap is bigger between the two. it was too late to step back that far and set everything up again, so i will have to get used to seeing it

p.s. james all the DT's were cut with my leigh D4R jig

I'd love to be able to say, "That's never happened to me," but Ma taught me to always tell the truth. Been there, done that, and got the mental scars to proove it. Great work for a shop cabinet, and realy great that you are doing these to hone your skills. Making mistakes is sometimes the best way to learn. I really need to get some shop time to build some myself.

That thing looks rock solid! Surely on the way to antique-hood! :)

I love it!!!

If I tried to build something like that, I'd be like Don2Laughs.....OK, before I build it I have to get my clamps organized, then I have to get my Kreg Jig (oops, Chance's Kreg Jig) stuff organized and a specific place to keep it, then I need to put everything where it belongs, then Sunny wants to play, then Sunny needs a nice wooden dog bed and dog bowl holder, then........I still wouldn't have the original storage unit built

So, Grizz, you did great. Now, let's see the pics when Joan fills it up with her tools:D :D
