Last week I posted my first try at making a marking knife. It is usable but UGLY!! :(
Now, Lawernce has joined the DIY knife making club and did a bang up job using a lathe and everything!!! (check out his post)
Then, along came Gene to help me out with some real plans! :-D So, I just had to try again and make it pretty this time too. :-D
So, who is next? There a thousand designs out there and I know alot of people here have even better ideas, so please show us your "home-made scriber".

Here is #two (and counting) for me....

Yea, that is a knife. It just has the sheath on the blade in this shot. The sheath is held on with a magnet and is suppose to keep me from stabing myself. (Mom never let me play with sharp objects but, she did send me out into heavy traffic alot  )

OK, here is the blade. Im not sure it is going to keep a sharp edge very well though. I made this one out of 3/8" key stock and ground one side down to 3/16" and put the cutting edge on it. I'm afraid that key stock might not be hard enough to keep a sharp edge for very long but, we will see. (I probably won't use it enough to get it too dull.) :D

Oh yea, the wood is maple with cherry accent stripe. Just some scrap I had laying around. The contrast isn't very strong but, maybe the cherry will darken in time! :D

NEXT........

That looks like a real fine way to keep the blade covered-- nice job

(this could get to be addictive)

Now ya'll have me thinking about making myself a marking knife. I know I have some old chain saw files, wondering how they would come out using them for a marking knife.
Will look into that in the future.
